Small Business Tips: 3 ways for your customers to find you online

27 Nov

Back in October, Montrealer Aimée Davison of OneHundredJobs launched an initiative called Yellow Page Mountain whose goal is to “To cease the unwanted distribution of paper yellow page phone books”.  There are many digital alternatives to the traditional, old school print methods for promoting your products and services that even small businesses can benefit from that are low cost (if not free but don’t forget the time investment!) but can have a big impact.

You don’t need to be an online business to take advantage of the Internet and the searches that are happening daily by potential customers looking for products and services like yours.

3 Digital Alternatives to Getting Your Small Business Found Online:

Yelp: is a review site that helps people find local businesses. Business owners can setup a free account and post offers for free and these reviews show up in Google. Suggestion: Reach out to some of your key customers and ask them to leave you a testimonial on Yelp.

Start a Blog: Google loves content. While your basic website content is static (about, services, contact) and doesn’t change often, when you blog regularly Google will return to your site more often and make your content available in search. More (relevant) content = more chances in getting found!

Google Places: One of the best ways to help people find your location is to list it in Google Places. In addition to listing your business, it also shows your business on Google Maps. You can also ask customers to leave you reviews here as well.

So there you have it, three ways to getting your business found online. Have any other suggestions?
