Five reasons why you need to be on Twitter

4 May

Are you still on the fence about whether you should be on Twitter?

Here are five good reasons why you should be on Twitter and how your business can benefit.

1- You have a website right? Well, everyone has a website. That’s the point. Back in the day, your business most likely got found when people looked you up in the yellow pages. You got a website and then they looked you up on Google.

Twitter search results show up in Google results

In real time.

So, what does that mean? Someone tweets about your business, product, service-Google will find it and so will your potential customer.

2- Listening. You can tap into a huge resource of intelligence and find out what people are saying about your industry/products/services at any given time. Free market research!

You choose who you follow so you don’t have to follow people who choose to talk about what they are having for lunch.

3-Connecting. Connect with other like-minded individuals in your niche.

4-Find people looking for your types of products and services.
Twitter is not all about self-promotion but you can get started by listening and finding people who are interested or may need what you have to offer. I described how to use the Advanced Search feature here

5-Get help. I look at Twitter as my trusted Google. Sure I can Google search something and get an answer but with Google searches you have to always remember there is the SEO factor and optimization that has occurred to have certain results appear first. And often times the results aren’t the most relevant or you may not know if the source is credible. On Twitter, once you build your network you can turn to your network to ask questions. Even better, people you don’t know or aren’t yet following may chime in and give you the answer you are seeking.

All in all, Twitter is not the only answer to your online marketing strategy but it is definitely one more tool to add to your arsenal.

Any other reasons? What do you think? Convinced yet?
